DEPUTY

I’ve brought him in for questioning.

HEAD

For questioning? On whose authority did you do it, Deputy?

DEPUTY

On mine, sir.

HEAD

You have no such authority.

DEPUTY

I took the initiative to do it, sir.

HEAD

I’ve never seen you display any initiative, and I certainly don’t expect you to be doing so now. Besides, it is beyond the call of duty of a civil servant to show any initiative. Indeed, it is against tradition.
